23 Aug Cooperation Efforts between Muğla and Rhodes
Ahmet Aras, Mayor of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality and President of the Union of Coastal Aegean Municipalities, organised a visit to Rhodes, Greece on 21-23 August together with the Union Council. During this visit, Mayor Aras met with Rhodes Mayor Alexandros Vasilios Koliadis, Deputy Governor of the South Aegean Region Asprakis Apostolis, Rhodes Consul General Salim Kırcalıali, and representatives from the Muslim Culture and Brotherhood Association of Rhodes.
He was accompanied by Union Councillors including Tire Mayor Hayati Okuroğlu, Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin, Karaburun Mayor İlkay Girgin Erdoğan, Dikili Mayor Adil Kırgöz, Narlıdere Mayor Erman Uzun, Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal, Marmaris Mayor Acar Ünlü, and CHP Muğla Provincial Chairman Zekican Balcı.
During the conversations, the participants referred to several key issues including the climate crisis, peace, regional development, and sustainability. There was a strong focus on developing strategies to combat climate change, protecting natural resources and implementing environmentally friendly practice. Additionally, it was stated that ensuring an environment of peace is important for regional progress and a consensus was reached on the need for societies to act in solidarity.
The planned efforts aim to enhance the tourism potential of Muğla and Rhodes by highlighting their cultural and natural beauty and to support the implementation of collaborative projects.

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras stated that they are working to achieve the goal of ‘World City Muğla’, which he has expressed since the election process, and that they are taking new steps every day. Mayor Aras said; “We will steadfastly pursue international co-operation projects in line with the vision of World City Muğla, and these initiatives will offer new opportunities for both regions. We also aim to take significant steps towards the protection of the sea, nature and historical texture. Our work together in peace will make great contributions to both regions in terms of development and sustainability. In line with our mission of “World City Muğla”, we are diversifying our city diplomacy strategy day by day, and we continue our efforts with determination to build a more resilient and sustainable future together with our neighbours in the Aegean and Mediterranean.”
