Mayor Aras Attended the World Travel Market Held in London

Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras showcased all 13 districts of Muğla together for the first time under a single booth at the World Travel Market held in London. During his visit to London, Mayor Aras also met with tourism professionals, connected with the TÜSİAD London Network, and paid a visit to the Turkish Ambassador in London.

During November 5-7, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras attended the World Travel Market held in London. During the event, he met with leading figures in the travel and tourism industry, tourism professionals, and other stakeholders. Mayor Aras had the opportunity to showcase and promote Muğla, the capital of unique natural beauty, on an international stage. At the 45th edition of the World Travel Market, Muğla was represented together with its 13 districts at a shared booth. District mayors and local chambers of commerce also contributed to this representation.

Visit of the Ambassador of London and TÜSİAD London Network

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras visited the Turkish Ambassador Osman Koray Ertaş in London, the capital of the United Kingdom. During the meeting, discussions focused on securing support from international funding institutions for regional development projects in tourism, agriculture, mining, and other industrial sectors. 

While in London for the World Travel Market, Mayor Ahmet Aras also met with Dr. Hasan Turunç, the Head of the TÜSİAD London Network. In line with the vision of making Muğla a global city, the meeting aimed to strengthen international relations and forge new collaborations. Topics such as sustainability in tourism and green energy financing were also addressed. 

Mayor Aras also engaged with Turkish businessmen representing Turkey in London, taking significant steps to further strengthen ties with the United Kingdom, which is the leading source of tourists to Muğla. These efforts are aimed at boosting tourism connections and setting important targets for 2025 tourism goals.

“Muğla is the Apple of British Tourists’ Eyes”

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, who stated that they opened a stand at the World Tourism Fair for the first time as Muğla with all its districts, emphasized that Muğla has always been a city that is the apple of British tourists’ eyes.

Mayor Aras said, “At the 2024 World Travel Market, we participated with our district municipalities, chambers of commerce, and all the beauties of Muğla. At this prestigious fair, held for the 45th time, we had the opportunity to promote Muğla’s unique cultural and natural beauties on the international stage. We held productive discussions with leading figures in the travel and tourism industry, focusing on cooperation and innovations centered on sustainable tourism. In addition to the tourism fair, we also met with businessmen and tourism professionals who successfully represent our country here. We visited our Ambassador in London and had a productive conversation. Muğla has always been number one in tourism preferences for British citizens. We aim to further grow this interest and love, expand our tourism volume, and increase cooperation between the two countries.”

Visit to Chatham House, One of the World’s Leading Think Tanks

Muğla Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Aras also visited Chatham House, one of the world’s leading think tanks. Mayor Aras stated, “We met with David Lubin, the Director of Turkey Studies and Senior Researcher at the Global Economy and Finance Program. In our discussion, we addressed crucial topics about the future of our cities within the scope of global issues such as geopolitics, economy, sustainability, and the climate crisis.

The collaboration with esteemed global institutions like the Royal Institute of International Affairs, also known as Chatham House, strengthens Muğla’s international presence. It also underscores our commitment to sustainable development, eco-friendly urban projects, and finding local solutions to global challenges. Aligned with our vision to make Muğla a global city, we will continue working to strengthen our role in tourism and to showcase the city’s potential to a broader audience.”
