Mu\u011fla\nis a city located in southwestern T\u00fcrkiye, in the southern part of the Aegean\nRegion. Surrounded by the Aegean and the Mediterranean, the city is famous for\nits rich natural beauties, historical and cultural heritage. Today, the region\nknown as Mu\u011fla province was known as Caria in ancient times. Mu\u011fla, which\ncarries the marks of humanity since the 6th millennium BC, covers a wide\ngeography named after the Carian and Lycian civilisations of ancient times. The\nborders of today’s Mu\u011fla province consists of a large part of Caria and some\nsettlements of the Lycian civilisation.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Throughout\nhistory, the region has been under the rule of such great civilisations such as\nthe Lydian Kingdom, the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great and the Roman\nEmpire. After being under the sovereignty of the Turks, the geography in the\nregion began to be known as Mente\u015fe. This name has its origin from the Mente\u015f\u00e2\nPrincipality, which was founded in 1261 and took control over the region in a\nshort time. In 1424, the Mente\u015fe lands, where the Ottoman Empire became the\nsovereign power, were administered as a sanjak. This region, known as Mente\u015fe\nSancak during the Ottoman Empire Period, became a province under the name of\nMu\u011fla after the announcement of the Republic. The surface area of Mu\u011fla\nprovince is 12.654 km\u00b2 and its coastline is 1.589 km.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
