Mu\u011fla and its surrounding areas have a\ndeeply rooted historical background. The history of the region dates back to\n3400 BC. In the 1000s BC, the Leleges, an Anatolian-origin people, lived in the\nregion. Around 546 BC, the region came under the rule of the Kingdom of Lydia\nand shortly after, it fell under Persian control for a brief period. The\nbeginning of the Turkish era was marked by the establishment of the Mente\u015f\u00e2\nPrincipality, which played a significant role in the Turkification of Anatolia.\nThe strategic importance of Yata\u011fan was highlighted when Sultan Suleiman the\nMagnificent set up his headquarters in Boz\u00fcy\u00fck in 1523 while on his campaign to\nconquer Rhodes.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Main Historical and Archaelogical Destinations<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Stratonikeia Ancient City<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Stratonikeia is one of the most\nsignificant settlements in the Caria region. The city was named after\nStratoneike, the beautiful woman beloved by Antiochus, the son of Seleucus, the\nKing of Syria (Seleucids). The earliest findings in the city date back to the\nMycenaean period. Additionally, the city includes structures from the Archaic\nand Classical periods. Today, visitors can see and partially explore the\nremaining structures such as the North City Gate, the North Street, the\nGymnasium, the Theater, the Bouleuterion, the Temple, and the City Walls. The\npresence of the Theater and Gymnasium within the city indicates that\nStratonikeia was also active during the Hellenistic Period. The Gymnasium is\nestimated to measure between 105 meters and 180 meters, making it the largest\nknown gymnasium of its kind.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Stratonikeia is one of the rare place\nwhere structures from the Ancient, Ottoman, and Republican periods are visible\ntogether. The presence of numerous buildings from different eras and the\nhistorical environment make it an invaluable opportunity for visitors exploring\nthe city.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Panamara Ancient City<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Located to the southeast of Eskihisar,\nthe ancient city of Panamara is situated on a hill above the village of\nBa\u011fyaka. The ruins include the sanctuary where it is believed that there were\ntwo temples: one dedicated to Zeus Panamaros and the other to his wife Hera.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Yata\u011fan Rock Church<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
The frescoes are located on the\nnorthern face of a rock at a height of 30-40 meters. On the western side of the\nrock, within a red straight frame, there are four scenes. From left to right,\nthe frescoes depict: an angel figure, a man and a woman embracing, two saints\nwith the Virgin Mary, and the final fresco features Jesus with a male figure.\nThe frescoes are dated to the 13th and 14th centuries.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Osman Hamdi Bey House<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
The restoration of the house where\nOsman Hamdi Bey, T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s first museum curator, archaeologist, and painter,\nstayed for a period in Turgut Village, Yata\u011fan District, Mu\u011fla, has been\ncompleted.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
In Mu\u011fla, locations associated with\nsignificant events from recent history or important figures are being restored\nand made available for cultural tourism. Osman Hamdi Bey, who initiated the\nexcavations at the Lagina Ancient City, is known to have started painting his\nfamous work “The Turtle Trainer” in the house in Turgut Village,\nwhere he stayed from 1891 to 1893.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
The opening of the restored Osman Hamdi\nBey House as a museum by the Mu\u011fla Governorship has created significant social\nand economic revitalization in the region.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Dipsiz Stream<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Dipsiz Stream is located 4 kilometers\naway from the town center. As one of the picnic spots in Yata\u011fan, Dipsiz Stream\noffers a pleasant atmosphere with its trees lined along the spring and rich\nvegetation. There are no facilities available at Dipsiz Stream, which is one of\nthe places where you can picnic in Yata\u011fan.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
In the area, you can also taste the\nblackberries growing along the stream. You can enjoy a refreshing time with\nyour friends or family under the trees, benefiting from the coolness of the\nstream. Dipsiz Stream is listed among the places to visit in Yata\u011fan and can be\nvisited at any time of the week.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Blue Lake<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Blue Lake, located in Yata\u011fan, features\na striking blue appearance due to its formation and offers numerous activities\naround it.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Blue Lake has a unique natural beauty\nthat is rarely seen elsewhere. As there are no buildings around Blue Lake, you\ncan enjoy a pleasant stroll along the lake with bicycles you bring along.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
You can also capture unique photos and\nimmortalize your enjoyable moments by bringing a camera with you on your visit\nto Blue Lake.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

G\u00fczelk\u00f6y \u2013 Boz\u00fcy\u00fck<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
Boz\u00fcy\u00fck, located about 8 km from the\nMu\u011fla-Yata\u011fan highway, is a quaint village. It is known for its traditional\nvillage houses, square, and the local coffeehouse where villagers gather.\nRecently, the village has gained attention as a filming location for several TV\nseries and movies, including “G\u00fczel K\u00f6yl\u00fc,” “Baba Oca\u011f\u0131,”\nand “D\u00fcr\u00fcye\u2019nin G\u00fc\u011f\u00fcmleri.” This has turned it into a popular spot\nfor fans and visitors.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
Boz\u00fcy\u00fck is a charming town with many\nhistorical houses and is known for its agricultural and livestock activities.\nIt features an 800-year-old monumental plane tree and is famous for Boz\u00fcy\u00fck\nP\u0131narba\u015f\u0131, a natural water source with a depth of 87 meters.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
The local market has become a place\nwhere natural products are sold, and the small shops in the town square are\nadorned with souvenirs. Boz\u00fcy\u00fck offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and\nstress of big cities, making it an ideal place to relax and recharge.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>
