Although there is no definite\ninformation about when Ula was founded, it is estimated to have been\nestablished in the 6th century BC. The region where Ula is located was known as\nCaria in ancient times, except for the areas of Fethiye and K\u0131n\u0131k. In the\ninscriptions found during excavations in Athens, the name “Ola”\nappears among the cities belonging to the Carians, who made an agreement with\nthe Ionians in 1440 BC. The famous Ottoman traveler Evliya \u00c7elebi noted in his\nwritings that the name “Ola” was changed to “Ula” after it\nwas conquered by Ulama Bey, one of the Mente\u015f\u00e2 Beys. In the 17th century,\nEvliya \u00c7elebi described Ula as being surrounded by vineyards and gardens, with\ngrapes being sent to Egypt. Yedi Delik is famous for its\nearly period tomb remains, and this area includes a multi-storey structure\nencompassing 14 tombs. These caves, located to the east of Ula in the area\nwhere Alicin Mountain rises, belong to the Carians and are notable for their\ntomb chambers carved into high cliffs. According to ancient beliefs, it was\nthought that the dead needed protection from people upon their resurrection, so\nthese tombs were carved into high cliffs. These structures are the damaged\nremains of caves from that era, with small chambers and stone beds inside.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Thera Ancient City<\/o:p><\/span><\/b><\/p>
