A Bridge of Friendship Between Muğla and Leshan

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality has signed a sister city protocol with Leshan, a city in China’s Sichuan province. The initiative marks a key step in strengthening Muğla’s international relations and integrating it into the global city network.

Hosted by Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, the protocol was signed between Mayor Ahmet Aras and Guo Jie, Director General of Communication Department of Leshan City Committee. It lays the foundation for friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation between the two cities.

A Strategic Partnership for Tourism and Economic Growth

The memorandum of understanding focuses on collaboration in tourism, cultural exchange, and investment. It aims to develop joint projects, increase mutual tourist flows, and contribute to economic growth.

A Lasting and Strong Bond Between Muğla and Leshan

Guo Jie expressed her satisfaction with the visit to Muğla and said:
“I believe that this protocol will go beyond being just a formal document and serve as a foundation for lasting and strong ties between our cities. Leshan and Muğla, with their rich historical and cultural heritage, have much to offer each other. I sincerely thank Mayor Ahmet Aras and the Metropolitan Municipality for their hospitality.”

In his speech, Mayor Aras emphasized that the memorandum of understanding marks the beginning of a strong friendship between the two cities:
“We were very pleased by the visit of our Chinese delegation. Today, we signed a memorandum of understanding, which will be ratified by both municipal councils and will officially make our cities sisters. This cooperation is not just symbolic—it will lead to concrete partnerships. Muğla is Türkiye’s gateway to the world. Since taking office, we’ve worked to promote our city, develop international relations, and contribute to global peace.”
