Mayor Ahmet Aras secures approximately 100 million TL in grants for Muğla Metropolitan Municipality through his diplomatic contacts and cooperation efforts.
As the President of the Coastal Aegean Municipalities Union and Mayor of Muğla, Ahmet Aras established diplomatic relations with major European capitals such as Berlin, Paris, and London in line with the vision of Muğla as a Global City. During his international visits, he held several meetings to secure grant support from international organizations.
During his visits to the UK, Germany, and France, global issues such as regional migration, the climate crisis, and biodiversity were discussed. Mayor Aras held talks with various international organizations and representatives to assess potential grant opportunities for Muğla.
In his statement, Mayor Aras emphasized the importance of regional and international collaborations, saying, “Finding local solutions to global problems and collaborating for a sustainable future is a top priority for us. We are working to develop Muğla in line with the vision of a world city. We aim to secure 37 million TL in grants by June 2025 and have plans to finalize agreements for an additional 63 million TL in grants.”

Mayor Aras: “Our International Contacts Are Starting to Yield Results”
Mayor Aras stated that they have started to see results from the ongoing projects and announced that they have received a grant of 343,000 TL from the European Union for cultural events. He emphasized that the aim is to secure a total of 100 million TL in grants through projects supported by prestigious institutions such as the European Union and the Japanese Embassy. Mayor Aras noted that these projects include support for cultural events, solutions to the climate crisis, and support packages for disadvantaged individuals.
Prominent Projects in Grant Applications for December
€343,000 Cultural Event Grant Received from the European Union
The “Let’s Go to the Theater” project, prepared under the European Union’s Erasmus+ European Solidarity Corps program, has been accepted with a grant of 343,000 TL. Aiming to enhance artistic awareness, the project will contribute to strengthening cultural interactions.
Hygiene Support Project for Disadvantaged Individuals
An application has been made for the “Mobile Bath and Hygiene Support for Disadvantaged Individuals” project under the Japan Embassy’s Local Projects Grant Program. The project aims to provide solutions for the basic hygiene needs of disadvantaged individuals. If approved, the project will receive a grant of 5 million TL.
Grant Application for 56 Million TL for Climate Change
A total grant application of 56 million TL has been submitted for two important projects under the EU Turkey Climate Change Grant Program (EU-TR CCGP). The first project aims to provide local sustainability solutions under the title “Strengthening Local Climate Action through Recycling of Pruning Waste” in partnership with the GHG Institute (Italy). The second project aims to develop “Natural Energy and Functional Ecological System Parks” in Menteşe.
Climate Change Risk Analysis in the Aegean Coast
An application has been submitted for the “Vulnerability/Sensitivity Index and Sea Level Rise Risk Assessment Project for the Aegean Coast Region” under the European Union’s Climaax Climate Change Call. The project aims to analyze the effects of climate change in coastal areas and develop solution proposals. A grant application of 5 million TL (138,000 Euros) has been made for this project.
Grant Received Under the Technical Support Application of the South Aegean Development Agency (GEKA)
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality’s “Applied E-Commerce Training Project” has been granted 250,000 TL under the Technical Support Program of the South Aegean Development Agency.
The project aims to facilitate online sales for the partners of the Muğla Agricultural Development Cooperative, which was established under the leadership of the Metropolitan Municipality. It also focuses on increasing the qualified workforce, promoting the digitalization of more cooperatives to start e-commerce, and supporting development through these efforts. Additionally, the project aims to employ disadvantaged individuals and women as practitioners.
As part of the technical support, it is planned to provide Applied E-Commerce Training to 20 individuals from the Muğla Agricultural Development Cooperative and personnel of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality.
33 Million 407 Thousand TL Additional Grant Applications Planned
Based on the established international connections, it is planned to apply for at least 33 Million 407 Thousand TL in additional grants by June under European Union Projects, Embassy Grant Programs, Horizon 2020 Multinational Projects, and Erasmus projects.
